Growing up amongst the oil refineries in Louisiana, Josh Tickell experienced the impacts of dirty oil processing at a young age. After watching members of his family suffer from pollution related cancers, Tickell began a lifelong quest to find sustainable, clean energy sources. In 1997, Tickell set out on the road with a biodiesel powered "Veggie Van" and a video camera to begin filming what would eventually become known as FUEL, the 2008 Sundance Audience Award winning documentary film that investigates the possible replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy. Over the course of his 11 year journey, Tickell traveled the world going to over 25 countries, authored two books, founded a nonprofit organization, and jumpstarted America's biodiesel movement. Tickell's Veggie Van Organization was selected by President Bill Clinton as an inaugural part of his Global Initiative on Climate Change. The organization serves to educate people about sustainable energy and provide pathways for integrating sustainable energy into homes, communities, cities, states and ultimately nations. He holds an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Living from the New College of South Florida and an MFA in Film from FSU's School of Motion Picture Television and Recording Arts. A shrinking economy, a failing auto industry, rampant unemployment, an out-of-control national debt, and an insatiable demand for energy weigh heavily on all of us. Fuel shows us the way out of the mess we're in by explaining how to replace every drop of oil we now use, while creating green jobs and keeping our money here at home. The film never dwells on the negative, but instead shows us the easy solutions already within our reach.

THE BIG FIX - SHOCKING Interview by Ken Spector

Josh and Rebecca Tickell interviewed by LivingECO.com's Ken Spector about their new documentary about the BP Oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The film is called THE BIG FIX, and documents how irresponsibility and lack of accountability led to one of the worst environmental disasters ever. According to scientists, the oil is STILL leaking into the ocean, and according to Josh Tickell, BP continues to pour corexit chemical to hide this massive disaster. Rebecca Tickell has a permanent skin condition called "tar smarting", most likely as a result of being exposed to a mixture of corexit and petroleum during the filming of this documentary. She can no longer go into the sun without being covered. Rebecca mentions in the interview that her toxicologist told her that women living in the region are having increasing miscarriages and malformed babies.
